This past weekend saw the successful completion of the first Nissan Trailseeker Trailrun at Buffelsdrift post-lockdown.

The day dawned hot and dry. Perfect Pretoria weather. Runners were hungry for some competition or perhaps the need to run the trails in the company of others and for that reason, the race was a sell-out at 280 runners.

All runners complied patiently with the COVID-19 screening process and also wore their buffs diligently. Thank you to every runner who submitted him or herself to screening without complaint.

The event kicked off in the heat of the day with the 21-km runners setting off at a thundering pace. The 10 km runners followed and finally, the 5 km pack was also underway with unrestrained enthusiasm.

Theunis Muller, Paul van Niekerk and Paulo de Freitas were our trailblazers and came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 21 km men’s race. Cinette van der Ende, Mart-Mari van der Merwe and Rolien Terblanche was our lady winners for the 21 km.

Runners finished the race red-faced and sweat streaked but grinning from ear to ear. The racing draught has ended. We are back on the trails doing what we love.
